DARCON Training is dedicated to providing specialist training and consultancy services in drug and alcohol abuse identification training in the workplace, the identification of impaired driving and other Occupational Road Risk issues. It is the only company in the UK which currently provides services in respect of non-invasive impairment testing techniques to the private sector to the BS EN 9001:2000 standard. We are able to supply a full package of services from scoping studies, policy writing, educating your staff to identify users, through to providing counselling services (through the use of our associates). We are also able to provide support for your policy and its management. Cert.DRE I Stephen (Steve) Collier, set up the Drug Abuse Recognition Consultancy (DARCON), whilst serving as a police officer in Northamptonshire. On his retirement in 2005, after 30 years service, DARCON, became DARCON Training Ltd. Having a wealth of experience in Road Traffic Law enforcement, including road death investigation, motorway patrol, and accidemt investigation, he completed his service as the road policing training officer. During his service he developed many training courses and is qualified in Training and Development . Stephen also trained in the United States as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and also attained the Drug Recognition Expert instructor's certificate (DREI), making him the first DREI outside of North America & Canada. Since 1998, Stephen has, and remains involved in, the development of drug driving testing techniques. He developed the National Drug Drive Instructor training for Field Impairment Testing (FIT) and Drug Influence Recognition (DIR) on behalf of the Association of Chief police Officers (ACPO) and the Department for Transport (DfT). He continues to teach these techniques to police officers around the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand. Stephen is a past associate member of Drugscope and a member of the Society for the Study of Addiction. He is an associate member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Transport Safety (PACTS) and a member of the Society of Expert Witnesses. He has co-authored Chapter 14 (Drugs, Toxicology and related areas of expertise) in the book 'Forensic Practice in criminal Cases' published by the Law Society . He also co-authored The Encyclopeadia of Forensic Medicine chapter 'Road traffic, Determination of Fitness to Drive', published by Elsevier Ltd. Stephen has also had articles published in Jane's 'Police Review' , US Drug Law review 'The DRE' and recently in 'Drug and Alcohol Today'. His own book "Drug Recognition and Field Impairment Testing Aide Memoire' was published in 2004 and is now on it's second edition (available from this website). Stephen is currently working on another publication to provide a definitive guide to drink and drug driving, the expected publication date will be Summer 2008.
